Dr. Edward Chouchani

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School

Edward Chouchani joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Cell Biology in 2017. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at the University of Cambridge and MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit. He then performed postdoctoral research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Chouchani’s research has focused on determining the mechanisms through which metabolic pathways control the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in living systems, and the molecular targets of signaling ROS in vivo. To this end, he has developed metabolomic methods to identify pathways that control physiological ROS production and proteomic methods to quantitatively map the cysteine targets of ROS generated in mouse models of health and disease. Recently, he has applied these methods to identify mitochondrial metabolic pathways that control ROS production in adipocytes and control their anti-obesity and anti-diabetic function.
